Sugar – The Silent Killer

Being a natural ingredient, Sugar has always been a part of our diet for thousands of years. Sugars are starches (carbohydrates), that give vitality to the body. The most widely recognized sugar in the body is glucose which gets processed in your cerebrum, real organs and muscles need to work appropriately.

As we have developed as a nation, sugar has kept on playing an undeniably more unmistakable part in our food structure. Not only in the sugary substances like chocolates and cookies, sugar has advanced into essentially EVERYTHING we eat.

Though it is found naturally in most of the plants, it is however particularly found in sugarcane and sugar beets. And hence the name as “Sugar”. The most common types of sugars are – Sucrose, Fructose & Glucose, Lactose, Maltose. The sugar that we eat on daily basis, has absolutely no nutritional value. This sugar is added to numerous substances and beverages to sweeten the flavor. However it ought to be taken in little quantities, as an excessive amount of it can prompt continuous medical issues, including diabetes and heart issues.

According to the research, women should consume not more than 100 calories per day and men having 150 calories per day. Our human body is designed in such a way that it requires only a limited amount of sugar. And excessive intake of the sugar, only adds to unwanted calories to our body and those unused calories are transformed into fat and extra weight. A hormone called “Insulin’ is released to handle that excess sugar calories. The more the sugar in your body, the more the insulin is released, causing the sugar levels go beyond the normal leading to fat storage.

Besides all the health issues, the foremost impact of consuming sugars unlimitedly, leads to tooth decay and gum diseases causing cavity creeps. So now there arises a quick question – does eating less sugar  keep you protected? Yes. To some extent having sugar in controlled manner will keep you healthy.

The next is fruit sugar – which is healthy if taken in the right manner. Shockingly, when you consume fresh juices like squeezed orange, squeezed apple, where the juice is pressed, giving you all of the sugary juice water but no fiber or nutritional value. Hence ,make sure you get the energy in fruit form, and not in juice form.

We need to always keep in mind that sugary foods can be as the same as physiologically addictive drugs. You can really end up noticeably being dependent on the sugar and other sugary substances. If you think you are unknowingly addicted to the sugar, please take necessary steps to come out of it and lead a life free from the sugar problems !!
