Vitamins the Basics

This twenty first century has brought a drastic evolution in the nature of humans. Besides modern advancements, nowadays people are becoming more and more health conscious. As a result of this, the demand for both the private fitness and fitness centers has increased and people are ready to invest in these fitness options to achieve better well being.

Most times, people tend to forget that the food we consume plays a vital role in maintaining good health. Besides physical training, fitness can be achieved through proper intake of nutrients. Though there are many nutrients that help maintain one’s good health, the foremost nutrients are the Vitamins!

Vitamins are vital nutrients that the body requires to remain healthy. They are organic substances which our bodies require to function properly. A few vitamins are produced by the body, whereas the rest are obtained from the food we eat daily. We need vitamins in our diets, as our bodies cannot synthesize them quickly.

There are nearly 13 vitamins that are really essential for human activity – vitamins A, C, D, E, K and eight B vitamins. The Vitamins are of two types – Fat soluble and Water soluble. The vitamins A, D, E and K are all fat soluble, where they are stored in the liver and fatty tissues for moderately longer durations to be used later. As for vitamins B and C, they are water soluble and stay in the human body only for shorter periods of time.

Among these 13 vitamins, the Vitamins A, C, D and E are referred to as  antioxidants. They are responsible for many functions within our body! They shield our body cells from damage and in addition to giving supplements.

Foods rich in Vitamin A are mainly responsible for the vision. It also helps in the healthy formation of bones, teeth and skin. This deficiency is mostly associated with night-blindness. Vitamin C is essential for vascular integrity and wound healing. It also supports immunity, helping you to look young. Vitamin D is an excellent anti-viral that helps improve mood and also responsible for bone strength and integrity. Vitamin E aids in tissue repair, helping in the formation of red blood cells preventing cell damage. Lastly, vitamin B helps in dealing with stress and plays a vital part for one’s skin, hair, nails and digestion.

As a result, vitamins as a whole are essential for normal physiologic functions like growth, reproduction etc. Always keep in mind, a good healthy diet should provide you with all the nutrients one needs.
