What is Scoliosis

Scoliosis is a medical condition where the affected person’s spine has a sideways curve. The curve is usually S or C shaped. It affects children to work going adults. This complex condition comes in different forms and varies severity from one patient to another. The most common symptoms for this problem are curved spine causing muscle imbalance, stiffness and even heart/lung problems. Let’s discuss on how the proper exercise from personal trainers help to overcome this problem.

It affects people between 10 to 15 of age. Both male and female included, where the female are more likely affected with the scoliosis curves. Diagnosing in early stages helps in treating the curvature and slowing the progression. In some other cases, bracing is useful as it delays the need of surgery until the child gets older where the his or her bones have developed.

Many professionals and doctors research on this condition and do screenings with all kinds of people. Below are the findings on their research:

  • Shoulders appear in different heights
  • Side to side asymmetry in spine
  • Any changes or uneven appearance around the spine
  • Change in the hip that sticks out than the other

This scoliosis can be treated with methods like bracing, physical therapy and pain management. Bracing is used to halt the progression of the curvature until the patient is old enough to undergo surgery. Physical therapy helps to overcome the problem by doing physical activities as per the guidance of physical trainer and finally the pain management which is non-surgical form and it involves the nerve blocks, nerve ablation etc.

Nowadays, once after been diagnosed patients are looking to exercise to improve their condition. They feel that physical exercise can only help them more. The effect of slowing down the problem may be gradual. It is often suggested that people who suffer from scoliosis must start with the yoga which targets with balance and core strength.
